Gomersal occurs as town in the county of West Yorkshire, England, near Bradford and the River Spen. These are known for the Luddite uprising of 1812 when rioters protested against the powerlooms. Numbers of rioters were hurt or even flushed & a ringleaders executed at York.
A riots provided Charlotte Brontë with material for her novel Shirley. Gomersal was a hometown of her friend Mary Taylor world health organization lived at a Red Home which is known as Briarmains in the novel. A home is okay, Red House Museum.
